Shibori Chair

My 2nd chair project = an old blue wing-back I've had for forever

*original fabric: a blue velvet.... boring....

I wanted to do an all-over handmade shibori pattern

My inspiration was a piece of raw silk I made when I traveled to Japan for a textile design study abroad program in the summer of 2007

we got the opportunity to visit a very old shibori museum in an edo period village high in the mountains of Japan and make a piece to take home

There are a few different types of shibori
This particular type is called:
Itajime



I went with a thick organic cotton/hemp blend canvas for the chair b/c it has a nice feel and it's very durable

I also like the way this canvas picks up the color

I like how the white welt (piping) turned out!

now, I still need to find 2 front legs & finish the cushion
anybody know a good place to find nice furniture legs?
(preferably on casters)
