Welcome Back!
Today's post will be all about my first chair

I've had this chair frame for probably close to 4 years.
It was given to me by a friend I use to work with & it was in really rough shape.

I wish I had the before pics but.......4years later.......I kinda lost them......

I can tell you that it had a cane back & a separate seat cushion in a split pea/yellow 70s fabric.

The back curve was broken and the wood was sad...
He just need a little TLC

After the repair work was completed, I decided to paint the frame a teal-ish blue color with white accents. I thought the white would accentuate the beautiful cut-outs and give it a bit more depth.
( Usually I would design the fabric first and paint the frame after but this time I did it a little backwards, go figure! )

I had to re-design the chair from the frame up.....Not the easiest.
I decided to upholster the back & add a "tight-seat" instead of doing a cushion.

The fabric is a collaboration with a semiconductor design company.
I truly feel that completely different professions can always find common ground.
They focus on "progression" and putting tiny computer chips in credit card size packages.
They go through some of the same techniques I use for screen printing except they are doing it with microscopic semiconductors.

I fell in love with the shapes and the idea of "regression" or taking such a new & sophisticated technical advance and using it in a very old technique like fabric design and upholstery.
I love the relationship between the "computer" world and the "hands-on" world.

We call our textile collaboration le tronica by Q Electro

To finish this chair I went with a natural cotton twill ribbon tape instead of a double welt cord (piping).
Then, I wanted to give it a little bit more color so I chose a salmon/coral/orange color decorative nail, I found on eBay, & positioned them approx. 1" apart

I have to say, BEEP BEEP!
(That's me tooting my own horn)
